Privacy and Account Settings to Review Before Creating a Profile

Creating a profile is a good moment to make deliberate choices about public information, device settings, location visibility, and how you want to handle uncomfortable interactions. This checklist covers a limited set of Grindr’s documented controls and published safety guidance.

It does not establish that any control is available to every account, device, or location, and it does not guarantee safety or privacy.

Before You Start

Choose What to Share Publicly

You can choose not to include every identifying detail. Grindr advises users not to put a phone number, home address, workplace, or last name on a public profile. [S7-C1]

Start by reading every public field before you save it. Ask whether each detail is necessary for the profile you want to create. Keep the choice focused on your own comfort level and the information you want associated with your account.

Secure Your Account and Device

Review your account credentials. Grindr advises using a strong, unique password that is not used elsewhere. [S7-C2]

Grindr describes PIN Lock as a feature intended to help protect an account if someone gains access to the user’s phone. [S7-C3] Grindr also says discreet app icons let users change how the app appears on their device. [S7-C4]

These are separate settings to inspect. Review the current account and device options, then decide which ones fit your own device use.

Review Distance and Proximity Settings

Grindr says turning off Show distance keeps exact distance from appearing on a profile. [S7-C6] Grindr also says that a profile may still be ordered by proximity in the Grid when Show distance is turned off. [S7-C6]

Review both details together. Turning off Show distance affects the display of exact distance; it does not mean proximity ordering necessarily disappears. Check the current setting before you decide what location visibility you are comfortable with.

Understand Screenshot Limits

Grindr says screenshot blocking is enabled for certain content, including time-expiring photos, albums, and profiles. [S7-C7]

Grindr describes screenshot blocking as enabled for certain content. Treat it as a feature to understand before deciding what to share.

Know How to Hide, Block, and Report

Grindr says users can hide their profile from specific people in addition to blocking. [S7-C9] That is a different product function from blocking.

Grindr says blocking a user removes each person from the other’s view and prevents contact unless the block is removed. [S7-C8]

If you consider reporting a profile or interaction, review the in-app reporting options Grindr describes. [S7-C5]

Plan a First Meeting

Grindr advises meeting someone in a public, safe place and telling a trusted person about the plans. [S7-C10]

Use that advice as a short preparation checklist:

Use this checklist to pause before a meeting and decide what information you want to share.
